  • LeeAnn Hardy says:

Thank you Michele and PJ for this insightful call. I set up my LinkedIn profile during a List-a-Palooza Power Hour last month and have made 261 connections so far, but I hadn’t known what do do from there. With your step-by-step tips, I now feel ready to jump in and do something to develop the connections I have now and add more to my network.

    • PJ Van Hulle says:

      Yay, LeeAnn! 😀

  • niki rebin says:

QQQ Thank you Michele and PJ for such an excellent call. What great detail! Best takeaway: social media is for marketing not sales!!!

One question: Like a lot of other people I’ve been asked to publish on LinkedIn. And already there is a glut of information coming in from everyone. Do you see the ROI of publishing right on LI versus your blog entries being posted to LI?

Thanks for such a comprehensive coverage of LinkedIn today!

    Niki

  • GREAT stuff, Michele!! I appreciate the info, but also your clarity in articulating the tips.

QQQ – what’s the deal about endorsements? I have not yet figured out if they have value. I sorta kinda endorse people for things, and see them endorsing me… but what’s it all about (strategically, that is).

    Thanks!

  • Take advantage of opportunity to post video. I didn’t know you could do that.

  • Gwenda Joyce says:

Michelle, You are so informative! I already posted a blog post to my LInkedIn feed. But my options to share are only Public, Public & Twitter, and Connections.

It doesn’t let me publish to my groups. Anything I can do?

    • Karen Wyatt says:

      QQQ

Gwenda, I have had the same problem. I used to be able to post blogs to multiple groups using the Share button but it no longer works now. I have had to go to each group and post the blog multiple times. I hope someone knows another way around this!!

      Thanks,
      Karen

  • Coach Adam says:

QQQ – People I’ve never done work for have endorsed me for certain skills. Am I supposed to endorse them back?

    • Nela Dunato says:

You don’t need to reciprocate, but if you know them well enough to know what they’re really good at, it would be nice.

I don’t even endorse my boyfriend for things he knows very little about, because he thought it was somehow relevant to add. And I’m bugged that people endorse me for a certain CMS I last used in 2004.

  • Nela Dunato says:

QQQ so you basically accept every single request you get? I’ve been really picky with who I add, since LinkedIn was supposed to be the place where you connect with people you know already. Huh.

  • LeeAnn Hardy says:

    QQQ:
Is there a way to look at someone’s LinkedIn profile without them being notified that you’ve done so?

    • Nela Dunato says:

There was a setting where you could turn it off, but then you don’tgget notified either. Not sure if it’s still available.

  • Erica says:

Since FB is coined as the “Info” Social media outlet, what info and how often should we post content/marketing strategies on LinkedIn?

  • Coach Adam says:

QQQ I keep getting invitations from people I don’t know. Should I connect with them?

    • Avalaura says:

I do! I connect with everyone, you never know who people are and how they can assist you!

    • PJ Van Hulle says:

If they look legit, I accept the request. If they have no photo or info in their profile, I don’t.

      • Linda says:

Totally agree with PJ here. And I do the same for all the social media sites. I too have gotten some creepy requests and ‘suggestions.’ I always want to say for cryin’ out loud! I’m old, I’m tired, and if you can’t do better than that, why would I want you?

  • Linda says:

OMG! I thought I was the only one to go through the alphabet! LOL!

    • Linda says:

      I’ve become a Ninja!

    • Erica says:

LOL I was thinking the exact same thing! Great minds! It’s a good feeling to know that we are doing what the experts are doing! – Best of luck to you! – Erica

      • Linda says:

I know! I post to twitter but hate it. I like FB but there’s too much junk and playing. I’ve been having a love affair with LinkedIn. Serious but fun and interesting people who share, participate and encourage. It’s gone a long way in improving my self-confidence as I grow. (That’s the only reason I’ve become a Ninja there. Hard work and trial and error.)

    Hello PJ, Michele, et al,

Sorry I cannot be with you live today, Lord willing on Thursday – having an internet deficiency while juggling current commitments.

Enjoy Michele’s talk, I think this is a topic not too many are talking about, yet it’s one of the first sites people go to these days when they really want to know about a person = potential. I’ll be back to read everyone’s comments & questions when I can.

    With you in spirit 😉

    • PJ Van Hulle says:

Thanks for stopping by, Stacy! Good luck with your juggling. 🙂
