Thanks for you all, Alison and PJ, I really needed to identificate with the resistance of choosing a niche. I’ve been hesitating, because I love so many things and even if I may sound vain and little professional, I excell in more than one (I understand them more like facets of a big process), and choosing feels like renouncing. I resonated very much with the project-time commitment idea. As a researcher, I can function very well in that kind of logic.
Love and blessings to you and your generosity!
Thanks, Sandra! I think you’ll particularly enjoy Tad Hargrave’s interview this week, too. He’s going to talk about the resistance around niche.
Yes, yes! I hear you, Sandra! Once you get to the other side, if you’re like me and SO MANY other people I’ve talked to, you’ll see that picking a niche just makes everything so much easier. If you’re good at lots of things, you’re lucky that you can pick the one you like the most! Enjoy the process ๐

thank u! got it. very inspiring. i hope to be on the september 13th call! i have opted in on alison’s website.
Awesome! By the way, I have to share that September 13th is my BIRTHDAY! Woo-hoo!
Anne will be interviewing me that day. I’m so excited! : D
Easy date to remember, as it’s my birthday as well!
Will be so glad to have you with us, Nysha.
I really am jazzed by the idea of trying out a niche as a project for 3 months. Thank you, Alison for that. I am curious if you have suggestions for how I would make a project out of offering my services to mothers of young children? The idea would be to offer my services as a mother’s helper – I am a skilled cook with a wide range of knowledge (including gluten-free), do organizing & feng shui, am skilled at readings, and do massage. I also have lots of herbal, food, and practical knowledge to share around pregnancy & breastfeeding.
A good place to start is interviewing some mothers of young children like Alison mentioned on the call.
One of the best questions she shared to ask your niche is: “As a (mother with young children), what’s the biggest challenge that you face?”
See what kind of feedback you get & create a project to solve one of those challenges.
Thank you! That is a wonderful piece of the puzzle to work with. I did not think to link those to parts of advice.
…two parts of advice
I agree with PJ! Glad that’s helpful… Good luck, Wendy!
I didn’t get the URL for the eBook… can someone post or email me? Thanks.

In another call on niche, I heard that one possible niche is an area that we are personally finding a challenge. To me this is very counterintuitive. Do you have an opinion about this?
Hi Rob!
In this series, we’re approaching the subject of niche marketing from a lot of different angles. Some suggestions or distinctions are going to land with you & some aren’t.
As we shared on the call, I’ve seen some examples of this working well. That doesn’t mean that YOU have to do it.
Sure do. A mentor once told me that I’m always a step ahead of SOMEONE, and I might just be the perfect guide for that person. Sometimes the big experts who “have all the answers” are too inaccessible or too far removed from the situation. I like that.
Meanwhile, integrity is important, so I definitely don’t advocate for putting yourself out there as the one with all the answers if you don’t live it yourself. When I’m dealing in an area I’m challenged in, I share about that in a way that will be empowering to people.
I feel like I am getting closer to my niche but would love more ideas on how to brainstorm it and what questions to ask myself?
Also the gateway problem, it’s hard to know where to start with the problems I have solved it’s all over the board…
Thank YOU!
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. It’s an all-over-the-place kind of endeavor, and at some point you just have to CHOOSE. Here are some questions to help you explore niche, but I really caution you against spending too much time trying to get it perfect. It’s just not gonna be perfect.
That said, here are some ways you can approach niche:
– What/who do I love? Who are my favorite people? What problems do I love helping people with?
– What problems am I really good at solving, and who has those problems?
– What problems can I become great at solving, and who has those problems?
– What do people want? What are they willing to PAY FOR? (The second is a more important question than what they want or need.)
If you get really clear about who want to serve, then you can go ask them about their biggest challenges. Those are the problems you want to talk about in your marketing, because they are the problems that people know they have. Once you work your magic with them, you can help them solve other problems. The point is, pick one thing/area/problem to LEAD with.
Good luck, Nicole! I know you can do this!
Brilliant, Alison! Thanks for sharing! : D
@ Nysha – “psychographics” very interesting point. Certainly something to keep in mind!
The idea of working on things on a project basis is great!
Totally! : D
LOVE!!
That is such an interesting point! Look at the clients I love!! Because they are those who I love and those who were problem children…interestingly they are all the same “financial demographic” it was more the psychographics where they separate themselves…thanks!!
Yeah, it’s a great distinction! : D
